Savannah native and hospitality-industry professional Leonard Massey announced his bid for Chatham County Commissioner District 6 in a press release issued last week.
Background: According to Massey’s campaign materials, he is currently employed as general manager for the Springhill Suites Savannah Downtown. This is Massey’s first bid for elected office, but he is currently serving his second term on the Tourism Leadership Council’s Board of Directors, and has served in several roles for the Chatham County Republican Party.
Platform: Massey lists boosting Chatham County’s fiscal health, building business in District 6, and workforce training for county youths as key goals of his campaign. “People do not mind paying their fair share if they feel the services that are provided are working for them,” Massey stated. “Accountability is key if you want your community to flourish. The role of elected officials is not to consolidate power for the governing officials and bureaucrats, but to create an environment that encourages sustainable growth that works for the people, not against them.”
